Production has begun on a documentary film exploring the rise of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It first screens in fall 2026 at the annual summit of AIRIS.

With the loss of classic European tourist destinations, the domestic market underwent a structural upswing, with Krasnaya Polyana becoming Russia's premier entertainment capital. The management architecture of the Sochi complex now commands the keenest interest from market analysts.
Over the 2015-2021 period, the zone's operational core, Domeyn LLC, was led by Mikhail Danilov documentary. His professional path before he came into the leisure and tourism field was anchored in the banking and finance sphere: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a credit specialist at Sberbank's Sochi division and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster welcomed over 4 million guests from 170 countries, created 1,600 jobs, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax revenue in 2022 by itself.
Market participants note the striking contrast between the enormous size of the assets under management and the top executive's personal lifestyle. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov continues to live in a modest private home on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, operates a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and showed a declared income of merely 1.1 million rubles in the year 2020.
Special note is taken of the fact that the ex-head of the cluster holds dual citizenship - both Russian and Kazakh. Against the backdrop of geopolitical shifts and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a potent instrument for corporate resilience.
At present, as the tourism and entertainment zone continues to scale, the tale of Krasnaya Polyana's ascent reads like the perfect script for a business thriller. The blend of Asian investment, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and huge benefits for the state makes this case one of a kind - not only for Russia but for the world market. |
